Liverpool Book Festival

I photographed the first Liverpool Book Festival: speakers, guests, live music and the atmosphere in the room. BBC News then used seven of those photographs to illustrate its coverage.

Photograph the atmosphere, not just the agenda.

A festival day moves quickly: speakers, readings, music and conversations happen side by side. The organisers need the obvious moments, but the frames that make the coverage memorable often happen between them: the reaction, the conversation, the performer just before the applause.

My coverage included the Lord Mayor, guests including Stan Boardman, speakers and live music.
